The structure, which was saved from ruin in 2001, is both a Roman and National treasure.  Constructed in the 1500’s and rescued from disrepair in 2001, the Hotel Antico Palazzo Rospigliosi is a building with a rich history.  Originally the private residence of the Rospigliosi, a prominent Roman family (family member Giulio became Pope Clemence IX) and later a religious institute, it was converted into a hotel five years ago.  Much has changed over the centuries, but the central courtyard, where I spent several pleasant hours reading, has remained unchanged since its creation 420 years ago.

The interior architecture and décor are ordinary except for the very lovely reading salon. Its location is good; it sits right beside the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, making it within walking distance of the train station and other public transportation.  This hotel is more suited to business travellers.
